The Western New York Section of the American Planning Association (WNY APA) represents the professional planners in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara Counties. as well as Southern Ontario, Canada. The WNY APA Editorial Board (Board) was formed to provide valuable insight and comment on issues, topics, news, and matters that are important to the community, the profession, and the section members. The Board is tasked with providing editorials and letters to various media, elected officials, governing bodies, agencies, and appropriate entities that explain WNY APA’s analysis of the topic and its professional opinion on the matter. Further, the Board will also host forums and events that further the goals of the profession and advocate its importance.

The Board is comprised of a select group of persons who ideally represent a cross-section of the community of planners that make up the section. The members are appointed by the Director with the advice of the Executive Committee. The Board is led by a chairperson who will be responsible for representing the Board at Executive Committee meetings and other events, as necessary.

The Board will select topics relevant to the profession and community for discussion, debate, and comment. Procedures and protocol will be determined by the chairperson with the approval of the Director. When necessary, the Board will seek input from members at large and will provide an open comment period. Once proper discussion has concluded, the Board will publish a letter to the appropriate media organizations for distribution.

It is the intent of the Board to publish material that is rooted in facts, sound judgement, and consistent with the basic principles of planning. All reasonable measures will be taken to be inclusive, diverse, transparent, and free from bias. The Board will always provide for equal opportunity and will not discriminate under any circumstances. With this opportunity and with the resources provided by the Executive Committee, the Board will provide a great service and excellent value to the WNY APA membership.
